LOCK HAVEN, Pa. -
The Lock Haven Recreation Department’s Special Events class hosted their conference, "Recreation... Bringing It All Together," on November 5. It was held at the Durrwachter Alumni Conference Center and the Parsons Union Building. Many professionals and alumni were in attendance, along with visiting students and LHU students.
There were many different interactive and educational sessions that involved the different fields in the Recreation Management department. These sessions highlighted the outdoor, therapeutic, fitness, and community and commercial tracks.
The keynote speaker was Dr. Jim Cain, author of five adventure-based teambuilding books. Cain holds four engineering degrees including a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Rochester. His subjects range from teambuilding and experiential education using adventure-based and active learning strategies to corporate culture and leadership. In the past decade, he has presented programs and workshops in 44 states and 12 countries. He resides in Brockport, NY.
Lock Haven Recreation Department alumna Lori Riccio was in attendance and said the following about the workshop: “I thought the conference really helped me relate a lot of theories I learned in school to my current job. It was a great refresher! I thought the alumni conference center was beautiful and I look forward to returning there in the future for Alumni events, and possibly even my wedding reception. A job well done to the Recreation majors!”
The community is invited to visit Himes Hall to look at the Recreation Conference bulletin board with photos from the event. For any questions or comments, contact Judy Elliott, professor of the LHU Recreation Department, (570) 484-2584, or jelliott@lhup.edu.
