LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - The Lock Haven University Foundations of Excellence Steering Committee received the university’s Outstanding Collaboration and Teamwork (CAT) Award at the opening meeting on August 27. The CAT Award recognizes those group efforts that make a notable contribution to the advancement of university goals, mission, and service. The award recognizes groups, departments, or committees that demonstrate collaboration and teamwork.
Lock Haven University was accepted to participate in the 2008-2009 cohort of the nationally-recognized Foundations of Excellence year-long examination of first-year student practices. The Foundations of Excellence (FOE) Steering Committee was responsible for a volume of work focusing on gathering information about LHU practices, analyzing the information, forming committees to look at the data and practices, compiling evidence, communicating with the campus community on the university’s progress, and making recommendations for improvement. According to the statement nominating the FOE Steering Committee, “There has never been a more dedicated group of individuals and the results will be a plan of action that will be put in place to support our first year students well into the future.”
Albert Jones, assistant to the president and assistant director of human resources, presented the award to FOE Steering Committee members Carol Latronica, dean of student development; David White, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, Brian Cygan, director of the institutional research, planning and assessment office; Stephen Lee, director of admissions; Jim Theeuwes, director of student financial services; Paddy O’Hara-Mays, professor of distance learning; Rey Junco, associate professor, academic development and counseling; Lisa Weaver, assistant professor, academic development and counseling, and director of the Haven Achievers program; and Linda Koch, vice president for
