As director of athletic development, Hardy is responsible for identifying and cultivating alumni, corporations, friends and parents; developing strategies to increase funds generated by athletic annual giving as well as for major and deferred gifts; developing proposals and cultivating corporate and business sponsorships and advertising packages in support of athletics; and conducting and marketing external camp and conference programs not handled by the Lock haven University athletic program.
Hardy comes to LHU from the University of Mary Washington, where he is served as the Associate Director of Annual Giving Reunion Programs. He also has experience in small business, as a fundraiser at Susquehanna University, and as a financial services representative.
In addition, Hardy has a strong connection to athletics, having been a member of the varsity wrestling squad at Penn State as an undergraduate. He stated, “As a former collegian athlete, I can appreciate the many reasons that people choose to support athletic programs. I truly believe that athletics enhances the university experience.”
Keith O. Barrows, LHU director of development, commented on Hardy’s experience and talent. “Matt is going to be a great addition to the fundraising staff here at LHU. He brings a wide array of professional fundraising experience in working with alumni, donors, and volunteers, and he has a track record of success in alumni and development programs.” Barrows added, “We are fortunate to have him joining the staff at a time when there is an ever increasing need for more scholarships for student athletes and for additional resources.”
Hardy earned his Bachelor of Arts in History from The Pennsylvania State University. He said, “As a graduate of Bellefonte High School and Penn State, my roots are in Central Pennsylvania. It is an area that I appreciate and I welcome the opportunity to enhance the community.”
