LHU International students share their cultures at Avenue 209 events

International students gather with Jennifer Creamer, dean of LHU's Institute for International Studies.

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - The International Office at Lock Haven University hosted a serious of multicultural events at the local coffee house, Avenue 209. By utilizing a global interest in food and drink, the staffers at the International Office hope to teach the local community about a variety of different cultures.

The events educated and exposed the community to the university's partnering countries: Germany, Kenya, Mexico and Morocco. Events celebrating the different cultures included an Oktoberfest- themed event for Germany where the attendees helped themselves to sausages, pretzels and sauerkraut. Around Halloween, Avenue 209 celebrated Mexico with a "Day of the Dead" or "El Dia de los Muertos" party, a unique holiday focusing on the celebration of life of lost loved ones. Activities included making skulls and decorating sugar candies. Attendees enjoyed delicious traditional food in a festive atmosphere.

Each event was an opportunity for the community to interact with LHU's international students to learn about various aspects of their culture.
