LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - Broadway, ballet and the ballroom all come together in the Lock Haven University Fall Dance Concert. A special children’s matinee performance will be Friday, November 20 at 12:45 p.m. Evening performances will be Friday November 20 and Saturday November 21 at 7:00 p.m. All performances will be in Sloan Auditorium. There is no charge and the public is invited to attend.
Under the direction of Jayme K. Host, associate professor of dance, approximately 90 LHU students will take the stage. Their performance combines guest choreography representing the Broadway stage and the ballroom floor, mixed with contemporary, ballet and tap genres, choreographed by LHU faculty and students.
Students who take a dance class to fulfill a General Education requirement find themselves in costume and on stage to gain a glimpse of the life of a professional dancer. They learn dance technique, help in choreographing their dance, and perform three shows over the weekend.
Students’ choreography for the concert represents separate themes of patriotism, dreaming, and music visualization. “With such a variety of themes and genres,’ said Host, “there’s literally something for everyone.”
