Representative Michael K. Hanna

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - The Honorable Michael K. Hanna, Pennsylvania House of Representatives, will be the will be the guest speaker for the Lock Haven University commencement ceremony to be held on Sunday, December 13, 2009. A total of 193 students will participate in the ceremony. The title of Rep. Hanna’s speech is “The Challenge.”
Representative Hanna has served the people of the 76th Legislative District consisting of Clinton County and parts of Centre County since 1991.
Rep. Hanna was born in Lock Haven on August 25, 1953. He still resides there with his wife, Susan. They have two sons, Michael, Jr. and Kevin. Rep. Hanna graduated from Lock Haven High School in 1971 and went on to earn his B.A. from Lock Haven University in 1977. He graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a J.D. in 1980.
Rep. Hanna’s interest in government is what drove him to pursue a career in politics. His work in politics began with his involvement in student government in high school and continued with student government involvement in college and law school. Rep. Hanna practiced law for 10 years before becoming a representative.
During his time as representative, Rep. Hanna has focused on his role in returning state money to local taxpayers. He continues working to increase economic opportunity and improving education. Rep. Hanna is also interested in government reform and local tax reform.
Rep. Hanna currently serves on the Games and Fisheries Committee, Policy Committee, and is the Majority Chairman of the House Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee. He also serves on the Board of Governors of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE).
Other organizations to which the representative belongs include Clinton County Economic Partnership, West Clinton County Sportsmen's Association and Unified Sportsmen. He is an avid hunter and fisherman.
Rep. Hanna served on the Lock Haven University Council of Trustees from 1988 to 1994.
Lock Haven University is a member of the Pennsylvania State
System of Higher Education (PASSHE), the largest provider of higher education in
the commonwealth. Its 14 universities offer more than 250 degree and certificate
programs in more than 120 areas of study. Nearly 405,000 system alumni live and
work in Pennsylvania.
