Faculty, staff, students and community come together to beautify LHU Clearfield Campus

Dr. Marianne Hazel, interim dean of the LHU Clearfield Campus,

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - The Lock Haven University Clearfield Campus Beautification Day was held on May 21.

Faculty and staff members including Joe Newhouse, (and his mother, Lucy Newhouse), Michael McSkimming, Amy Way, Judy Billotte, Teri Neeper, Judy Hughes, Valerie Dixon, Judy Bungo, Stephanie Kulas, Randy Bordas, Barry Curry, Gary Potts, Marianne Hazel (and her parents, Pat and Joe Hazel), graduate intern Vanessa Pearson, and student helper Drew Stodart, all planted flowers and bushes.

Community members, West Branch School District teacher Mrs. Zimmerman, her students and teacher aides, and Clearfield Campus students also planted the flowers that they began growing this spring in their greenhouse.

Wal-Mart Transportation graciously provided food for all, as well as a very generous monetary donation for purchasing flowers, shrubs, tools, tables, benches, and birdhouses. Additionally, Philipsburg True Value, Aughenbaugh Landscaping, Clearfield Wal-Mart, Clearfield Tractor Supply, Curwensville True Value, and the Curwensville-Dubois Feed Store made donations, and the LHU Clearfield Campus is very thankful for their support.

Marianne Hazel, Clearfield Campus Interim Dean, exclaimed, “What a wonderful way to spend a sunny Friday morning! I actually got a little teary-eyed when I took a step back and looked across our campus. We had children to senior citizens all working to beautify our campus grounds, and we were just so touched by the enormous generosity of so many. It looks incredibly colorful when you arrive at our Clearfield Campus, and we’re anxious for others to come and enjoy it.”

The Clearfield Campus Beautification Committee will be meeting throughout the 2010-2011 school year to plan next May’s Beautification Day. For more information regarding the LHU Clearfield Campus, please visit the website at www.lhup.edu/Clearfield .
