LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - On Tuesday, October 26th, at 7:00 p.m., Lock Haven University's Environmental Focus Group will be showing Gasland: A Documentary by Josh Fox. The film depicts filmmaker Josh Fox's attempts to learn the truth about hydro-fracking after a gas company offered him a lease for his land in northeastern Pennsylvania.Lock Haven University is a member of the Pennsylvania State
System of Higher Education (PASSHE), the largest provider of higher education in
the commonwealth. Its 14 universities offer more than 250 degree and certificate
programs in more than 120 areas of study. Nearly 405,000 system alumni live and
work in Pennsylvania.
First aired on HBO, Gasland is now in theatres and has drawn international attention: in August, Fox went to Iceland to receive the Lennon-Ono Grant for Peace. The film has been described as "Part verite travelogue, part expose, part mystery, part bluegrass banjo meltdown, part showdown."
A moderated discussion will follow the film. The event, which is free and open to the public, will be held in Ulmer Planetarium.
