LHU singers play to a packed house; Fall choir concert a huge success

The LHU vocal ensembles performed for an enthusiastic audience in their first concert of the 2010-2011 academic year. They were led by Associate Professor of Music Ronald E. Miller.

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - On Sunday, October 24, 2010 Professor Ronald Miller and his vocal ensembles presented their annual fall concert to a packed house in Price Auditorium on the Lock Haven University campus. The choir groups included University Choir, Cantori, Vocal Jazz Ensemble, and Men’s Ensemble. A new edition to the choir programs this year was the Women’s Ensemble that is being directed by James Vesey, a music education major.
Cantori presented the selections “Shenandoah,” “Amor De Mi Alma” (performed in Spanish), and “No Hidin’ Place.” “No Hidin’ Place” featured a tenor solo by James Vesey of Madison, Va. The Women’s Ensemble, under the direction of James Vesey, presented two pieces. The pieces were entitled “He’s Gone Away” and “A Girl’s Garden.” The Men’s Ensemble performed “Yellow Bird,” “The Navy Hymn,” featuring a baritone solo by Michael Kostick of Enola, Pa., and “Homeland.” The Vocal Jazz Ensemble sang “All of Me,” “Linus and Lucy,” and “Cheek to Cheek.” The University Choir sang “And the Father Will Dance,” “Dirait-on,” “Danny Boy,” and “Bridge Over Troubled Water.” The last piece, “Bridge Over Trouble Water,” featured a soprano solo by Amanda Eriksen, from Lititz, Pa. and a baritone solo by Derik Cruz of Tyrone, Pa.

The piano accompanist was Kathleen Malenke of Lock Haven, Pa.

“I was very proud of how the singers performed on Sunday. To have that much music polished to that level for our first concert, is quite an accomplishment,” stated Director of Choirs Ronald Miller. Professor Miller also went on to say, “The students worked very hard and gave it their all. They did a terrific job! And a final thanks to the community for coming. We had a very large and extremely enthusiastic audience.”
