LHU to celebrate National Girls and Women in Sports Day with event for local girls

Local girls polish their skills at LHU's National Girls and Women in Sports Day.

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - To celebrate the 15th Annual National Girls and Women in Sports Day, the coaches of Lock Haven University’s women’s teams invite girls from the local area to an afternoon and early evening of sports. This free event will be Wednesday, February 16 starting at 3:30 p.m. There is no charge for participation.

Girls from elementary through middle school/8th grade are invited to participate. The festivities will begin at 3:30 in Zimmerli Gymnasium with a program and mini-clinics in a number of sports. This will be followed by a 5:30 pizza party in Thomas Fieldhouse. The evening will be capped off with the opportunity to watch the LHU Lady Eagles Basketball Team take on Clarion University. Participants will be recognized at halftime.

According to Assistant Athletic Director Danielle Barney, “LHU athletics is proud to continue our tradition of offering this event for young, aspiring athletes in the local area.” She added, “Head field hockey coach Pat Rudy and her staff have worked hard to keep alive this tradition of participating in the National Girls and Women in Sports Day celebration at The Haven, and along with our other coaches and student-athletes, all are excited to welcome the community to LHU.”

Preregistration is not necessary but would be helpful for planning purposes. Event organizers would welcome advance notice of the names of participants and their age/class year. This information should be sent to Danielle Barney at dbarney@lhup.edu or 570-484-2871.
