Clearfield, PA – The Lock Haven University Clearfield Campus added 73 new students in a variety of degree tracks and new programs at the start of the 2011 spring semester, to maintain steady enrollment. Many of these new students started their coursework in popular programs like Criminal Justice and Health Studies, and many others entered into general education courses including management and geology. An early childhood education class (ECED100) started this semester as a general education course offering and also counts towards Act 48 credits for teachers and other educators. Over 40 new freshmen registered for classes with 10 additional requesting to resume studies.
Lock Haven Clearfield Campus, in conjunction with Condensed Curriculum International, Inc. (CCI), offered two new certificate programs in Pharmacy Technician and Medical Billing/Coding as a part of the LHU extended education program. Lock Haven Clearfield Campus will offer two new certificate programs, EKG Technician and Medical Administrative Assistant, starting in late April.
The EKG Technician certificate is a comprehensive 50 hour program preparing students to function as EKG Technicians and to take the American Society of Phlebotomy Technician (ASPT) – Electrocardiograph (EKG) Technician exam in addition to other national certification exams. This course will include important practice and background information on anatomy of the heart and physiology, medical disease processes, medical terminology, and assisting physicians in diagnosing and treating cardiac and blood vessel irregularities.
The Medical Administrative Assistant is a 50-hour course preparing students to function effectively in many of the administrative and clerical positions in the health care industry. This program covers important background information on medical terminology, insurance billing and coding, medical ethics, customer service and legal aspects.
