LHU students celebrate Albanian holiday

Dorina Ibi, a four-year student from Albania studying Biology/Chemistry, offers guests red-dyed hard boiled eggs as part of the Dita e Veres celebration. Tradition says that if two people hit their eggs against each other's, the one whose egg doesn't crack is the strongest.

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - Lock Haven University students celebrated Dita e Veres (Albanian Summer Day Holiday) on campus. The holiday, which is traditionally held on March 14, celebrates the coming summer, and traditionally Albanians eat foods made with sweetened corn meal, such as Ballokume, a dessert prepared in central Albania.

Lock Haven University is a member of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE), the largest provider of higher education in the commonwealth. Its 14 universities offer more than 250 degree and certificate programs in more than 120 areas of study. Nearly 405,000 system alumni live and work in Pennsylvania.
