As a Minor

Purpose of Minor in Art:
Students are frequently interested in developing knowledge of and skills in art for both personal satisfaction and employment that links art with their majors.  For clarification, this suggests the need for two minor tracks – one in Art History and one in Studio Art.

Requirements for Minor in Art History or Studio Art can be achieved in the following manner:
3 to 6 sh taken from the 6 sh required in General Education and
18 sh taken from the 18 sh of electives required in General Education (21 to 24 sh).

 

ART HISTORY MINOR

 

 

List I

 

 

One course (3 sh) from the following:

 

 

ART102 Fundamentals of Art

 

 

ART103 Introduction to Art

 

 

List II

 

 

Five courses (15 semester hours) from the following:

 

 

ART205 Asian Art

 

 

ART301 Renaissance through Baroque Period

 

 

ART304 Ancient through Medieval Art

 

 

ART401 History of Modern Art

 

 

ART430 American Art:  Unity in  Diversity

 

 

PHIL307 Philosophy of Art

 

 

ART499 Independent Study and Research in a selected topic of Art History - Available to students who have completed 12 sh of the requirements in List II.

 

List III:

 

Studio courses (3 to 6 semester hours)

 

Must take one, but no more than two studio courses scheduled for six hours a week for 3 semester hours credit (3 to 6 sh)

Five courses (15 semester hours) scheduled for 6 hours a week for 3 semester hours of credit.  Four of the following, plus one ART425 (3 semester hours) studio course.

*ART210 Materials and Techniques

 

 

  ART215 Arts and Crafts

 

 

  (The four courses above do not have ART425, Special Problems courses.)

 

 

  ART217 Electronic Art: An Introduction to Computer-Aided Art

 

 

  ART225 Fabrics and Fibers

 

 

 *ART230 Introduction to Computerized Design

 

 

  ART305 Pottery

 

 

  ART320 Drawing

 

 

  ART325 Printmaking

 

 

  ART330 Painting

 

 

  ART335 Sculpture and Three-Dimensional Design

 

 

  ART340 Jewelry

 

 

  ART350 Photography as Art (available in each of the above courses with creative work, research, and direct guidance of the Art faculty.)

 

  ART425 Special Problems in Art  (available in each of the above courses, except ART110, 210 & 215, with creative work, research and direct guidance of the Art faculty)

 

  ART499 Independent Study in a special area is possible for qualified students.
