As a Minor

Why Explore the Women’s Studies Minor?

  • You will become knowledgeable about the contributions of women in their varied social and cultural roles in the United States and internationally.
  • You will strengthen your critical thinking skills and your understanding of issues related to gender and social justice.
  • You will enhance your appreciation for diversity ad discover the deep, interdisciplinary connections among disciplines such as sociology, history, and philosophy.
  • You will gain a greater sense of your own personal worth as a human being and the value of your relationship with other people.

Objectives

  • To study the experiences and contributions of women. 
  • To understand the diversity of women’s perspectives. 
  • To analyze the causes of gender hierarchies in society. 
  • To make connections between academic learning and one’s own life experience. 

The Women’s Studies Minor consists of 18 credits including a 3-credit Introduction to 
Women’s Studies, 12 credits of WS courses in various disciplines, and a 3-credit capstone course.
