Art, B.A.

The B.A. degree in Art is designed to develop visual literacy and aesthetic awareness.
Along with art appreciation and art history skills that focus on visual and cultural aspects,
the studio courses introduce the student to a variety of traditional and contemporary art media and content.

The program provides flexibility with advanced course selections for concentration within preferred studio disciplines.  International education offers opportunities for enrichment studies abroad.  Internships and visiting artist exhibits afford opportunities for the Art major to relate vocational and academic interests.

At the time of admission to the art specialization program, the student should present a broad sampling of art accomplishment.  After completing 15.0 sh in art, a portfolio from those credits will be presented to the department for evaluation and guidance.  Review of this work should provide adequate evidence of growth in the field and advancement over the admission samples.  The senior exhibit should demonstrate even greater competencies with special refinements.

Students are required to submit and pass portfolio review prior to their senior year and be juried into a senior exhibition before graduation.
