ECON628 SOCIAL SCIENCE SEMINAR:  TOPICS IN THE SOCIAL SCIENCES (3sh)
A thematic or topical approach, with emphasis on historical/political/economic analysis.  Treatment of historical, contemporary and/or comparative topics (for example, the historical roots and contemporary practice of terrorism and its political and economic impact; the impact of imperialism --political, economic, and historical-- in different global areas; the frontier experience of Russian Siberia and the American West) within a framework provided by the instructor.

ECON628 SOCIAL SCIENCE SEMINAR:  THE ECONOMICS OF CONTEMPORARY SOCIAL ISSUES (3 sh)
This course will examine the economics dimension of a variety of contemporary social issues.  The focus will be on, but not limited to, the United States.  The issues might include, among others:  job trends, new economy/old economy, crime, discrimination, immigration, urban/suburban/rural changes, energy production and distribution, mail delivery, the Social Security System, globalization of the US economy, the federal budget, national defense.
