Environmental Dangers of Hydro-Fracturing

Photographs of Marcellus Shale Drilling
in the Pennsylvania State Forest

The following aerial photographs were taken in November 2009, by Dick Martin of www.PaForestCoalition.org.  Please acknowledge them in any use.  The photographs are of the Fortuna Energy site (tract 587) in the Tioga State Forest, Ward Township, Tioga County.  Six to eight horizontal wells will be drilled and fracked at each well pad; each fracking will involve over 3 million gallons of water .  These wells will be re-fracked as needed when production diminishes to extend the life of the wells.  Fortuna Energy has a SRBC water withdrawal permit for up to .999 mg/d.  The water source is northwest of the site.  A gas pipeline will be constructed from the compressor to transport the gas to market; it will require a 40 foot right-of-way.  Fortuna Energy is now known as Talisman Energy, Inc. of Calgary, Alberta, Canada (www.talisman-energy.com).  Click on any picture for the file.

Overview of Tract 587.  Well #1 on left, Well #2 top center, Reservoir #1 on right.  Below Well #2 and to the right is a compressor site.  The tan area below Well #2 is a planned Reservoir #2 (8.5 million gallons).

PaForestCoalition took these photos of Andarko's operations in the Sproul State Forest, Clinton Country, in October, 2009.

The following photographs of Anadarko's operations in the Sproul State Forest were taken by Bob Myers on March 28th, 2010.

Anadarko Petroleum site on Eagleton Road.  The site has not been fracked yet.  The reservoir is beyond the orange fence. Another unfracked Anadarko site just off Eagleton Road. Pipelines along Beech Creek Road, probably to convey water to site currently being fracked up hill to the left.

In October, 2009, PAForstCoaltion took the following photograph of the Greenlick Compressor Station in the Susquehannock State Forest, Potter  County.

The following photographs of pipeline construction in Bradford Country were taken by the Responsible Drilling Alliance.

The following photographs were taken in Clinton County by the Western Clinton County Sportsmen's Club.  They show the damage to the roads caused by the water trucks.
