PRESENTATION
GUIDELINES
Each student must give a 20-25 minute
presentation on their research topic. The final research paper is due in
class on April 258. Research papers may not be attached as email or placed
in the instructor's mailbox or office without prior approval. All late
papers will be penalized 5 points per day. Students may use PowerPoint for
their presentation but are not required to do so. If you need copies
of handouts or any other assistance before your presentation, don't hesitate to
contact me.
GRADING STANDARDS
The presentation is 10% of your final grade
and will be judged on the following criteria:
- quality of analysis: students will
be graded on the quality and effort exhibited in their project.
Students should be able to demonstrate useful materials drawn from
discussions and readings and contribute to our group understanding of
Colonial American history. Analysis is not a passive exercise but the
active use of questioning, research, observing, and thinking.
- organization and clarity:
how students present the information is important. Your presentation
should be clear, concise, and organized for maximum student comprehension.
- student engagement: the best
presentations will be ones that involve student observers in active
learning. At the minimum, students should be prepared for questions
and seek ways to encourage audience observation or response.
- time management: each
student has a maximum of 25 minutes to complete their class presentation.
Presentations should not go over the time specified, including question
periods. Very short presentations will likewise be downgraded.
STUDENT PRESENTATION SCHEDULE
Students will present in the
order given below. Please be ready promptly on the day assigned. If
you are using PowerPoint or any other materials, please have them ready.
Attendance will be taken on presentation days and all students are expected to
observe respectfully and participate in discussions when called upon.
