SAP Training and Help

Overview:

Training will be accomplished using a train-the-trainer model.  Selected staff will attend SAP training sessions in Harrisburg (SyTEC) to learn specific functional aspects of the system.  They will in turn, return to campus and pass on this knowledge to other campus employees as needed.  The campus training will typically take place a few weeks before the "Go-Live" date set for a particular SAP module or as new employees are hired.

Getting Started:

Prior to any formal training there are some preliminary "self-serve" preparations you can do to get ready for your use of the SAP system.

  1. Print and review the instructions in the Web documents below:

SAP Installation Quick Checklist  or SAP Installation Detailed Checklist
How to put the SAP client software on your Windows-based desktop machine.  NOTE:  Macintosh users should contact the Computing Center Help Desk to make an installation appointment for a Java-based SAP client.
SAP Login Guide -- How to logon and logoff the SAP system.
SAP Navigation Guides -- Describes the screen layout, icons, toolbars, transactions, etc.

    1. Finance/Budget/Purchasing Version - Grant directors, department heads, budget monitors.

    2. Human Resources/Payroll Version - for departmental timekeepers, student employee supervisors

  2. Install the SAP GUI (Graphical User Interface) on your Windows-based workstation using "SAP Installation" above.

SAP Login:

How to login to SAP:  An interactive Power Point slide presentation, viewable via your Web browser, which steps you through a typical SAP login.  At the this time limited people have access to the TRN (Training clients 410 and 430).  The PRD (Production) system is available to a limit number of Business Office and Purchasing Office staff at this time.

Human Resources (HR):

Initial Campus Presentation:  An interactive Power Point slide presentation which highlights the major points of the SAP HR implementation.

On-line Training Documents:

The SyTEC training team has developed a large number of training documents which are available on the Web at the the SSHE Education Resource Group's Blackboard site.  These documents can be used to gain a transactional view of SAP and are targeted primarily at the administrative offices on campus.

Please stay within the category "SAP - SSHE Integrated Administrative System".  These courses are free, but other courses offered by various SSHE campuses are enrolled in on a "fee-basis".

To access these documents:

  1. Login to the Blackboard site with a username of "elockhaven" and a password "lockhaven" by clicking here.
  2. Select from the list of courses under the "My Institution" tab.
  3. These documents can be quite large and will require some waiting time to download from servers in Harrisburg.
