Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs

Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania invites applications for the position of Provost and Senior
Vice President for Academic Affairs, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2012.  The University seeks an individual who is committed to integrating curriculum and co-curriculum and can inspire and encourage, advocate and innovate.  LHU’s next Provost/Senior
VP will have a collaborative leadership style, value academic integrity and civility, and place student learning at the forefront of all decision-making.

Lock Haven University

LHU is located in scenic central Pennsylvania in Lock Haven along the Susquehanna River.  The University is home to nearly 5,500 undergraduate and nearly 350 graduate students, and is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education.

Boasting small class sizes and a student to faculty ratio of 18:1, LHU offers more than 60 undergraduate programs and certificates and several graduate programs, including a nationally-recognized Physician Assistant Program.  One of fourteen institutions within the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE), LHU provides an accessible and affordable education to a diverse population drawn from the state, the nation, and the world.  The University has a strong tradition in international studies and internationalization, both of which are important aspects of campus culture.  Pre-professional programs include Dentistry, Engineering, Law, Medicine, Pharmacy, Physical Therapy, and Veterinary Medicine.  Classroom learning is supplemented by a robust co-curricular learning portfolio that includes internships, study abroad programs, field placements, and service opportunities.  A remarkable 97% of each year’s graduates enter employment or pursue graduate studies.

Duties and Responsibilities of the Provost

The Provost/Senior VP provides strategic leadership for all areas of Academic Affairs, including two colleges, academic technology, honors, international studies, library, registrar, the e-campus, and the branch campus in Clearfield.  The Provost/Senior VP also oversees matters related to curriculum, program development/quality, faculty collective bargaining agreements, and professional development.  Representing Academic Affairs within PASSHE and with the University’s partner institutions abroad is also a significant responsibility.  The individual is expected to actively engage in campus activities and in the local community.  In the absence of the President, the Provost/Senior VP serves as acting President and undertakes special projects or assignments as a member of senior staff.
