Assisted in the transition and development of the department of public relations in to marketing and communications. Launched a new university website in February, 2009. Led a Web Advisory Committee (comprised of individuals from throughout the university, representing all campus groups) in researching and selecting a content management system (CMS) to migrate and improve the current LHU website.

LHU is one of fourteen Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) members (the public higher education institutions of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania). The school’s primary focus is teacher education with an emphasis on a strong liberal arts foundation. LHU offers both baccalaureate and master degree programs. The LHU International Studies Institute is a well-respected and established study-abroad program with active student and faculty exchange program opportunities to over twenty countries around the globe. There are approximately 5,000 undergraduate and graduate students served on the main campus and approximately 500 students enrolled at the Clearfield Campus in Clearfield, Pa. The Director of Public Relations reports to the vice president of University Advancement and supervises the sports information director, assistant director of public relations, department secretary and a staff of undergraduate student workers. The following are coordinated by the PR director and serve the various university constituencies with an annual budget of approximately $118,000:

  • Coordinate university advertising: radio, television, print (as needed),
  • University magazine (Perspective) editor and production coordinator of four, full-color issues per calendar year,  
  • Official University Media Spokesperson,
  • Notification of weather-related closings and/or delays, 
  • University administrative website: concept, navigation, and
    multi-department oversight and supervision, graphic design, administration of personal and departmental direct access,
  • Photography: campus event photos and contracted services
  • Graphic Design: campus graphics and contracted services
  • Writing/editing: feature stories/news releases for main and
    Clearfield campuses
  • Newspaper classified, legal, and display advertising design and placement for main and Clearfield campuses
  • Magazine print advertising design and placement

2007: Named a finalist/Runner-up (one of four) in the PR News PR People Awards national competition in the PR Professional of the Year – Academic Institution category. Nominated individuals are judged by a panel of blue-chip PR executives on criteria that included: professional PR-related achievements; specific campaigns or efforts spearheaded by the nominee and related outcomes; leadership qualities (ability to manage internally, intra departmentally and externally); innovative thinking; sound judgment; flexibility; creativity; financial management; how the nominee applied key tenets of PR - from reputation management to measurement; and volunteer efforts and other contributions to PR advocacy.

2002: selected by the university president as a campus representative to attend the Pennsylvania State System of
Higher Education Leadership Development Institute - a program presented by the Center for Policy Studies and Leadership in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania

Worked individually with university academic and administrative departments to create, update, and enhance presence on the World Wide Web. Identified and implemented new and effective ways of communicating LHU programs and events to a global Web community. Annual operating budget: $0.
   In coming to LHU in April of 1999, the University Web site was ranked
eleventh out of fourteen Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education member institutions in an annual study conducted by communication professor Dr. Mark Chase of Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania. 
The following year (2000) the LHU site jumped to number four; and in 2001 topped all fourteen schools in the same study (all accomplished with no additional staff or budget).  
   Responsible for graphic design and print production of collateral materials for the University Advancement division. Created the theme and logo for the LHU Foundation’s five-year capital campaign, “Touching Tomorrow Today.”

Responsible for the design, development, and updating of the three-hospital website (System consisting of The Williamsport Hospital & Medical Center, Divine Providence Hospital, and Muncy Valley Hospital); providing graphic design and print production management for three-hospital health system, its foundations, and auxiliaries. Produced a monthly Healthy Living Guide newspaper tabloid insert; a weekly internal system-wide newsletter; a quarterly full-color magazine (Susquehanna Health); and was responsible for the creation of collateral print materials for all departments and regional centers of excellence.
