GRADING POLICY

EVALUATION

The lecture and laboratory are highly integrated; therefore the assessments in this class will be an integration of your knowledge and understanding of the content that is presented formally and informally in both areas.  Summative assessments will be a combination of short answer, fill-in-the- blank, multiple choice, matching, or essay questions.  These assessments will model questions that you will likely encounter on the PRAXIS exam or your students will encounter on state science assessment tests.  There may be "pop" lecture quizzes and other forms of formative assessments that will be in the form of "quick writes" and various forms of constructed responses and writing prompts.  I am going to use these formats because they are the types of assessments that you as an elementary teacher will be expected to use in their classroom. There will be no make-up quizzes; if you miss a lecture quiz you get a 0 entered for your grade. If you miss a summative assessment, a makeup exam will be available for you to take, however, I get grumpy when I have to make a special exam so please try to take the exam at the scheduled time. You will not be allowed to make up more that one summative assessment during the semester and will receive a zero on the test that you miss.  You will not miss the final exam except for some extremely good reason! I will be the sole determiner of the validity of the excuse and will decide how, when, and where the final will be made up. If I decide that there was no good excuse for missing the final exam you will receive a 0 and your grade will be calculated accordingly. The exam grades will not be curved, however, there may be an occasional extra credit question or two. There may be some additional opportunities to "pad" your grade, however they will be totally at my discretion, but your input or suggestions are welcome. The opportunities to "pad grades" will be available to all students; there will be no special individual, extra credit projects.  Your grade will be calculated as a percentage of the total points in the class, plus any extra credit.

SUMMARY OF GRADING SYSTEM

Your course grade will be equated with your total percentage as follows:

A > 90%

B = 80-89%

C = 70-79%

D = 60-69%

F < 60%

I reserve the right to bump your percentage 1 to 2 points based no MY perception of your class participation, attitude and the progression of your test scores. Your attitude will not decrease your grade in any way.

ACADEMIC HONESTY

Lock Haven University has an Academic Honesty Policy which was adopted in 1992. A copy of this document is in your student hand book. YOU ARE EXPECTED TO READ, UNDERSTAND AND ABIDE BY THIS POLICY.

The first infraction of the Academic Honesty Policy will result in 0 points for the item. A second infraction of this policy will result in FAILURE OF THE COURSE!
