Dr. Frank Pogue

Appointed the fifteenth president of Edinboro University of Pennsylvania on July 1, 1996, Dr.Frank G. Pogue, a sociologist, holds a bachelor’s degree from Alabama State University, a master’s degree from Atlanta University, and a Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh.  

During his eleven years of service at Edinboro, Dr. Pogue has overseen unprecedented growth and advancement in academic programs, graduate enrollment, campus facilities, and gifts. In addition, Pogue has facilitated technological connections among the university’s three campuses: Erie, Edinboro, and the Meadville location, which opened in Crawford County in 2005. Pogue has conceived a learner-centered philosophy for Edinboro University, one where students are the focus in a caring and supportive campus community.

      Dr. Pogue participates in national, regional, and statewide leadership groups.  He serves on the American Council on Education’s (ACE) Commission on Women in Higher Education and is chair of the American Association of State Colleges and Universities’ (AASCU) Millennium Leadership Initiative.  Regionally, he works on the advisory council on affiliated institutions for the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools (MSA) with which he has been affiliated for more than 30 years.  His statewide involvement includes the Board of Directors of Pennsylvania Campus Compact, the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) Commission for the Universities and Commission of Presidents, and the Executive Board of A Community of Agile Partners in Education (CAPE). He has served on higher education advisory panels for Pennsylvania Governors Tom Ridge and Edward G. Rendell. 

This year, Governor and Mrs. Rendell honored Dr. Pogue for his dedication and service to all of northwestern Pennsylvania.  The Erie Area Chamber of Commerce awarded him the Louis J. Tullio Community Service Award. The Greater Erie Community Action Committee (GECAC) presented him in 2006 with the R. Benjamin Wiley Memorial Award, “Spirit of GECAC”.
