Biology 206 is intended to be an
introduction to botany and hopefully will provide students with a basic background in
plant science. During this semester we will examine anatomy, morphology, growth,
development and physiology of plants, especially emphasizing how these disciplines relate
to the evolution and diversity of plant life. Upon finishing the course, you should
realize that botany is a vital and active area of biological study that holds many of the
keys to the future of man kind's existence. Furthermore, I hope that you will come away
from the course with a deeper appreciation of the value and role of plants in the
biosphere.
One other thing while I have your attention. Computers play an ever increasing role in our lives and especially in the biological sciences. It is important that you become proficient in many aspects of computer use not just word processing. Much of this proficiency will come as you continue your education but it is important to start now. I hope that this class will add to your computer literacy. There is a wealth of information available on the internet and you will be required to complete assignments using the NET.
In an effort to save paper and other resources I have put most of the "handouts" that you will need for this course in this web site. Feel free to download whatever you want. If you want hard copy just use the print command in the tool bar.
