GRADING POLICY

LECTURE EVALUATION

The lecture exam format will be a combination of short answer, fill-in-the- blank, multiple choice, matching, or a rare essay question. There will be "pop" lecture quizzes and these will affect your grade. There will be no make-up lecture quizzes; if you miss a lecture quiz you get a 0 entered for your grade.   You will not miss either midterm exam, except for some extremely good reason! I will be the sole determiner of the validity of the excuse and will decide how, when, and where the exam will be made up. If I decide that there was no good excuse for missing the exam you will receive a 0 and your grade will be calculated accordingly. If you miss two of the exams for what ever reason, you will get an E for the course!  The exam grades will not be curved, however, there may be an occasional extra credit question or two. There may be some additional opportunities to "pad" your grade, however they will be totally at my discretion, but your input or suggestions are welcome. The opportunities to "pad grades" will be available to all students; there will be no special individual, extra credit projects.

LABORATORY EVALUATION

The laboratory grade will be based on approximately 100 points and will be 25% of the total grade for this course. Quizzes will be given during most lab periods and will cover material from the previous lab period as well as the current lab. I want to make sure you e read the lab exercise before you come to class. Drawings and review questions assigned for laboratories may be collected and counted toward a portion of the quiz scores.

Missed quizzes cannot be made up unless you have a legitimate and verifiable excuse. Make-up quizzes must be completed prior to the next lab meeting; it is your responsibility to arrange the make-up. If the lab quiz is not made up within one week, the grade for the quiz will be "0". If you know that you are going to miss a lab, see me in advance and try to get into one of the other lab sections. There are no make-up labs.

The plant collection is a separate grade that is worth 15% of the total course grade. Please make sure you read the details of how the collections will be graded in the Plant Collection handout.
