Haven Lacrosse To Face West Chester in PSAC Semifinal

   
  (Lock Haven, Pa.) -  The Lock Haven University women’s lacrosse team will make its return to the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) tournament for the first time since the 1991 season after securing a spot in this year’s playoffs with an 8-8 overall and 7-5 PSAC ledger. Advancing to the tournament as the fourth seed, LHU will have to face top-seeded and No. 3-ranked West Chester University (15-2, 12-0 PSAC) on Tues., April 27, at 4 p.m.
          Currently ranked 10th in the nation and ranked as high as 8th during the season, the Lady Eagles earned their bid to the playoffs with a win last Saturday over Millersville University , 10-9. West Chester picked up the top seed with its perfect 12-0 conference record. Earning the second seed was Shippensburg University (10-4, 9-3 PSAC), who will host third-seeded and defending champion Bloomsburg University (8-8, 7-5 PSAC) on Tuesday.
          As a team, third-year head coach Kristen Geissler’s Lady Eagles are ranked among the top four in the PSAC in every statistical category.  The Haven is fourth in both points (18.50) and goals (12.38) per game and is third in assists (6.12) per game. LHU is third in team goals against average, allowing in 9.69 goals per game.
          Senior Amy Richter ( Long Valley , N.J./West Morris Central) and junior Diana Strizki (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon Central) lead a young but talented offense. Strizki leads the Haven offense in scoring and is fourth in the PSAC in goals per game with 48 on the season along with a total of 19 assists. Richter has added 29 goals and 10 assists on the season.
          In only her first season at LHU, Jenna Richter ( Long Valley , N.J./West Morris Central) has become one of the Haven’s go-to-players. She took over sole ownership of the single season assists record and currently leads the PSAC with 40 assists (2.50 apg) on the season. Richter’s 40 goals also rank her as the team’s second-leading scorer.

        Other offensive contributors include freshman Mandy Alderfer (Harleysville/Souderton), who has netted 29 goals on the season. Jean Kearney (Springfield/Springfield) (14g, 5a), Shannon Houck (Gilbertsville/Boyertown) (11g, 7a) and Stephanie Wood (Califon, N.J./West Morris Central) (6g, 4a) are all scoring threats as well.
         Juniors Kim Hedden ( Long Valley , N.J./West Morris Central) and Laura Baranski ( Collingswood , N.J./Collingswood) head up the defensive effort on the field.  In front of the cage, freshman starting keeper Christie Dunning (Ivyland/Central Bucks East) has accumulated a goals against average of 9.72 and is sixth in the conference with 7.23 saves per game for 94 total.  
         West Chester won both of the regular season meetings between the two squads, the Lady Eagles falling 14-11 at Charlotte Smith Field before an 18-5 defeat on the road. 
         The winners of both Tuesday semifinal games advance to the PSAC Championship game to be held on Sat., May 1, at the site of the highest remaining seed.
