Lock Haven Ranks Third in Dixon Trophy Standings

Lock
Haven
University
of
Pennsylvania
ranks third in the final Fall 2003 standings of the Pennsylvania State Athletic
Conference’s (PSAC) Dixon Trophy race as released by the league office.
The Dixon
Trophy is named after F. Eugene Dixon, Jr., former
chairman of the Board of Governors of the State System of Higher Education.
It has been awarded annually since 1995 to the PSAC member institution
that accumulates the most points based on results of conference playoffs and/or
regular-season records. Each
institution’s point total is calculated by adding its top six men’s
finishes and top six women’s finishes in 23 conference sports.
Edinboro
University
is the current
leader, posting 58.5 points. Indiana (
Pa.
) University holds
down the second spot with 56 points. Lock Haven is third with 54.5 points,
including a conference-best total of 35 points from its women’s teams.
East
Stroudsburg
University
and
Kutztown
University
both have 52.5
points to share in fourth place.

Lock Haven teams capturing PSAC championships in the fall included
volleyball and men’s cross country. The women’s soccer team scored a
runner-up finish, and the field hockey team was a PSAC tournament semifinalist.
Lock
Haven had much success on the national level in addition to its conference
success, as the men's cross country team captured the East Region title and
placed 16th at the NCAA Division II National Championships. The
volleyball team won the Atlantic Region championship and advanced to the NCAA
Division II Elite Eight. Over the
course of the fall season, The Haven had five All-Americans and 23
student-athletes earned All-PSAC honors. Two
athletes were selected as PSAC Athlete of the Year, two more earned PSAC Rookie
of the Year honors, and one coach was named PSAC and Regional Coach of the
Year.
