(Lock
Haven, Pa.) - The Lock
Haven
University
of Pennsylvania
women’s volleyball team earned a No. 24-ranking in the American Volleyball
Coaches Association (AVCA) Final Top 25 Poll released on December 10. It is the
first appearance in the final national rankings for any Lady Eagle team, and it
is the first time in the Top-25 by any squad from the Atlantic Region all
season.
The
2003 Lady Eagles went 31-6, earning a share of the Pennsylvania State Athletic
Conference (PSAC) Western Division regular season title, winning the PSAC
tournament crown and the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region Championship before
advancing to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight. The Haven ended its season in
the national quarterfinals in a 3-2 loss versus the
University
of
North Alabama
, the eventual national champion.
One of the best
seasons on record, the 2003 campaign included a 13-match win streak during
mid-season rivaled only by a 19-match stretch in 1999.
The Lady Eagles posted the second-best win percentage in program history
at .838, and produced the third 30-win season at the Haven.
The season win-loss record brings the Haven program and 13th
year head coach Tom Justice to a 278-182 (.604) career ledger.
