volleyball’s Cherry Li (
Shanghai
,
China
) was selected as a First Team
member of the Daktronics All-Atlantic Region squad, as voted on by the
region’s sports information directors. As
a First Team selection, Li is now eligible for Daktronics All-America
consideration.
Li,
a freshman middle hitter for Lady Eagles, closed out the season as the
nation’s leader with a .471 hitting percentage.
She ranked fifth in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) in
kills (538; 4.27/gm), sixth in blocks (136; 1.08/gm) and 14th in
digs (466; 3.70/gm). A First Team
All-PSAC West pick and the only freshman to earn a spot on either Western
Division team, Li also led LHU with 42 service aces. She was the PSAC
Championships Most Valuable Player and also earned a spot on the NCAA Division
II All-Atlantic Region Tournament team.
The
rookie’s 538 kills and .471 attack percentage set new Lock Haven single
season records, and Li closed out the 2003 campaign second on the digs list
with 466.
The
Lady Eagles wrapped up the season at 31-6 overall, winning the program’s
fourth NCAA Division II Atlantic Region title and fourth PSAC title. Veteran
coach Tom Justice’s squad also earned a No. 24-ranking in the AVCA’s Final
Top 25 Poll.
