University
of Pennsylvania’s Jen DeNault (Hamburg/Hamburg) was
selected as the Division II
Field Hockey
Athlete of the Year and will represent the sport as a candidate for the 2003-04
Division II Collegiate Woman of the Year Award to receive The Honda-Broderick
Cup.
Jen DeNault, a senior back,
was a 2003 STX/NFHCA First Team All-American and earned Athlete of the Year
honors from both the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) and Eastern
College Athletic Conference (ECAC). A
First Team All-PSAC and All-ECAC defender, she was also an NFHCA Division II
Senior All-Star. DeNault helped direct the NCAA Division II and PSAC’s second
most effective defense, allowing just 0.78 goals per game.
A standout on the offensive side of the field as well, she ranked 10th
in the conference in scoring with 10 goals and five assists, totaling 25 points
and a 1.19 points per game average. DeNault
was also 11th in goals per game at 0.48 per contest.
DeNault is a four-time All-American, including three First Team
selections. She is a four-time All-PSAC
honoree and was the PSAC Rookie of the Year as a freshman.
The senior defender was twice selected to the NCAA Division II
All-Tournament team and was a part of the Lady Eagles’ 2000 national
championship squad. She was also an integral member of a pair of PSAC
championship teams in 2000 and 2001.
The 2003 Lady Eagle field hockey team went 17-4 overall and was 13-3 in
the PSAC. Lock Haven advanced to post-season play as the third seed in the PSAC
Tournament, losing in the semifinal round.
