Pennsylvania
wrestling program will induct five individuals into the Wrestling Hall of Fame
prior to the Bald Eagles’ dual meet versus
Cleveland
State
University
on Sat., Feb. 7, at
7:30 p.m.
This year’s group of
inductees includes Pat Seybold, Dennis Miller, Dale Budd, Shannyn Gillespie and
Mike Lingenfelter. Lock Haven has
admitted more than 90 members into its Hall of Fame since 1981, including
inaugural members Hank Blake, Hubert Jack, and Gray Simons.
Pat Seybold receives the nod
as a contributor. Seybold has been involved with the Lock Haven wrestling
program for over 50 years, spanning from early years as a child when his swim
team was coached by national champion Gus DeAugustino through to his present
day work. He has served as the Vice President of the Wrestling Club and as a
member of the Hall of Fame Wrestling Committee. Seybold is currently on the
Board of Directors of the Mat-Town USA Wrestling Club.

graduate Dennis
Miller. Miller was the head wrestling coach at Vineland (N.J.) High School
for 17 years, compiling a 172-113-4 record. His teams won five conference and
three district championships, and he also coached 25 individual district
champions and five Region 8 titlists. Miller
is a five-time Cape-Atlantic League Coach of the Year and has also been honored
as the Region 8 Coach of the Year (1985) and The Atlantic City Press deemed him the Coach of the Decade in 1990.
A member of the South Jersey Wrestling Hall of Fame, he co-authored the United
States Wrestling Federation Junior Division by-laws and co-founded the NJFW
Junior State Championships. A now retired Science Coordinator for the Vineland
Board of Education, he is the father-in-law of fellow inductee Mike
Lingenfelter.
Three former wrestlers have merited a spot in the LHU Wrestling Hall of
Fame, Dale Budd (’93), Shannyn Gillespie (’94) and Mike Lingenfelter
(’90).
Dale Budd wrestled at Lock
Haven from 1989-1993, earning All-America honors in his final season with an
eighth-place finish at 190 pounds. Budd opened his career on a high note,
earning Eastern Wrestling League (EWL) Freshman of the Year honors in 1990.
He was a three-time NCAA qualifier and captured an EWL title in 1993 and
a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) crown in 1992. He built a
career record of 90-41-2. Budd
graduated from the Palmer College of Chiropractic following his LHU graduation,
and is currently a partner in Chiropractic Health Centers in
York
,
Pa.
Shannyn Gillespie is currently
in a tie for eighth place on the Lock Haven all-time wins list after compiling
a 112-33-1 ledger from 1990-1994. Gillespie
advanced to the NCAA Division I Championships in each of his four seasons,
placing third at 142 pounds in 1993 for All-America honors. He was the EWL’s
Freshman of the Year in 1991 and was the EWL Champion at 142 pounds in both
1992 and 1993, earning Outstanding Wrestler honors as a senior. Gillespie was
also successful in the PSAC, claiming a pair of individual titles in 1991 and
1993. Gillespie is currently the
director of the Black Cats Wrestling Club in
Chicago
,
Ill.
Mike
Lingenfelter wrestled for the Bald Eagles from 1986 through 1990, wrapping
up his collegiate career in third place on the Haven all-time victories list
with an overall 123-52-3 record. More
than half his wins came by fall, registering 66 over his career. He was a
two-time NCAA qualifier, making tournament appearances in 1989 and 1990.
Lingenfelter captured an EWL title at 134 pounds in 1990 and was also invited
to wrestle in the NWCA All-Star Classic that season.
He earned a
Midlands
individual title and was also named
the Outstanding Wrestler in 1989. Lingenfelter
is currently teaching at Selbyville (
Del.
) Middle School.
