Lock Haven Names Barney To Assistant Athletics

Haven, Pa.) - The
Lock
Haven
University
of Pennsylvania Department of Athletics has named Danielle Barney to the role
of Assistant Director of Athletics. She had previously served as Sports
Information Director at Lock Haven.
Barney’s
new responsibilities will include assisting in the coordination of daily
operations with other duties to include student educational programs, community
relations projects, addressing gender and ethnic issues, promotional
activities, facility usage, and event management. She will also assume the role
of Senior Woman Administrator.
“I
am looking forward to joining the athletics staff and the opportunity to work
in a different capacity with the student-athletes, athletics department staff
and other members of the Lock Haven community,” said Barney. “I hope that I
can contribute to this already successful athletics program.”
Barney
served as the Sports Information Director at Lock Haven since 1999.
The primary media contact for the department, she handled publicity for
all 18 varsity sports in addition to producing the media brochures and all
other publications for the teams. She
also maintained the sports portion of the University’s web site.
Barney
earned bachelor’s of arts degrees in History and Spanish from
Elmira
College
in 1997. She received her master’s degree in Communication Studies in 2001
from
Edinboro
University
, where she served two years as a graduate assistant in the Sports Information
office. She is a member of several organizations, including the National
Association of Collegiate Women Athletic Administrators (NACWAA), National
Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators (NACMA) and CoSIDA (College
Sports Information Directors of America).
She
replaces Audrey Phillips as the assistant director of athletics. The University
is currently searching for a new Sports Information Director.
