LHU's Veldhuis Tabbed First Team Academic All-District

(Lock Haven, Pa.) - Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania ’s Keith Veldhuis (Thamesford, ONT/Ingersoll DCI) was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District College Division First Team Track & Field/Cross Country squad.  As one of the ten student-athletes selected to the First Team All-District, Veldhuis is now eligible for Academic All-America honors.
It is the first Academic All-District selection for Veldhuis, who was an All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) performer during both the indoor and outdoor track and field seasons. The sophomore Bald Eagle battled injury throughout most of the 2004 campaigns but still contributed points to the team’s third-straight PSAC Indoor Championship title by placing third in the pentathlon along with a fourth-place finish in the 200 meters and a fifth-place finish in the 55 meter hurdles. During the outdoor season, Veldhuis ran on the second-place 4x400 meter relay and the third-place 4x100 meter relay. He also placed fourth in the 400 meter dash as Lock Haven placed second overall in the team race.
As a freshman, Veldhuis was named the PSAC Rookie of the Year, earned All-America honors as a member of the 4x400 meter relay and competed in the decathlon at the outdoor national championships. He was the 2003 PSAC decathlon champion and a member of the winning outdoor 4x100 meter relay.
In the classroom, Veldhuis received USTFCA Division II Academic All-America and PSAC Scholar-Athlete honors in 2003. Most recently he was named Lock Haven’s Health and Physical Education Student of the Year. A sophomore for athletic eligibility purposes but a senior academically, Veldhuis carries a cumulative grade point average of 3.968 as a Health and Physical Education major.
The District II College Division consists of all non-NCAA Division I colleges and universities in New Jersey , Pennsylvania , Maryland , Delaware , West Virginia , and the District of Columbia . To be nominated, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore with a 3.2 cumulative grade-point average and be a starter or significant reserve.
The members of the First Team selections now move onto the national ballot for 2004 CoSIDA Academic All-America honors, which will be announced on June 22nd.  This is the third year of the Track & Field/Cross Country program.
