men’s track and field’s Nick
Slotterback (Lewisburg/Lewisburg) was selected as the Pennsylvania
State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Outdoor Track and Field Men’s Athlete of the
Year. The Lady Eagles also claimed
a post-season award winner as Maggie
Borden (Hanover/Delone Catholic) was awarded the title of PSAC
Women’s Rookie of the Year.
It is the first Athlete of the Year award for Slotterback,
who captured his second straight NCAA Division II national title in the javelin
at this year’s championships after throwing 217’10” in the finals to
clinch top honors. The first Haven
track and field athlete to win two national titles, Slotterback also won his
second-consecutive PSAC crown in the javelin this season.
He closes out his career as a three-time All-American, also placing
third as a sophomore at the national meet.
He also owns the school record in the event after a throw of 220’5”
in 2003.
Borden earns PSAC Rookie of
the Year accolades after a standout season for the Lady Eagles.
The freshman, who also competed as an outside hitter with the Lady
Eagles’ NCAA Elite Eight volleyball team, won the 400 meter dash title at the
PSAC Championships in a national qualifying time of 56.46.
Borden also ran with the fourth place 4x100 meter and 4x400 meter relays
and finished fifth in the 200 meter dash at the conference meet.
The PSAC also honored Karyn McCready (Slippery Rock) as the Women’s
Athlete of the Year, Allen Pryde (Shippensburg) as the Men’s Rookie of the
Year, John Papa (Slippery Rock) as Women’s Coach of the Year along with Steve
Spence (Shippensburg) as the Men’s Coach of the Year.
