LHU's Veldhuis Claims Academic All-America Honors

(Lock Haven, Pa.) -  Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania ’s Keith Veldhuis (Thamesford, ONT/Ingersoll DCI) has been selected for Second Team honors as a member of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America College Division Track & Field/Cross Country squad.
It marks the first Academic All-America selection for Veldhuis, a sophomore All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) performer during both the indoor and outdoor track and field seasons. The Bald Eagle battled injury throughout most of the 2004 campaigns but still managed to contribute points to the team’s third-straight PSAC Indoor Championship title by placing third in the pentathlon along with a fourth-place finish in the 200 meters and a fifth-place finish in the 55 meter hurdles. During the outdoor season, Veldhuis was a member of the second-place 4x400 meter relay and the third-place 4x100 meter relay. He also placed fourth in the 400 meter dash as Lock Haven placed second overall in the team race.
As a freshman, Veldhuis was the PSAC Rookie of the Year, earned All-America honors as a member of the 4x400 meter relay and competed in the decathlon at the outdoor national championships. He was the 2003 PSAC decathlon champion and a member of the winning outdoor 4x100 meter relay.
In the classroom, Veldhuis received USTFCA Division II Academic All-America and PSAC Scholar-Athlete honors in 2003. He was named Lock Haven’s Health and Physical Education Student of the Year after the spring semester of 2004. A sophomore for athletic eligibility purposes but a senior academically, Veldhuis carries a cumulative grade point average of 3.968 as a Health and Physical Education major.
The members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) by districts select the Academic All-District Teams, and the first team selections move onto the national ballot for Academic All-America Honors.  The Men’s Track & Field/Cross Country College Division awards, consisting of all non-Division I colleges and universities, honor a First, Second and Third Team of 15 members each.
