Ten LHU Field Hockey Players Named To NFHCA Academic Squad

  (Lock Haven, Pa.) -  Ten Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania field hockey players have been named to the 2003 NFHCA Division II National Academic Squad. The following players achieved a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.30 in the fall 2003 semester: Mandy Alderfer (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton), Tabitha Benjamin (Erin, N.Y./Spencer-Van Etten), Jennifer Churetta (Northampton, Pa./Northampton), Sarah Huber (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Christopher Dock), Sara Segerlin (Penfield, N.Y./Webster), Kathryn Stewartz (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown), Mandy Sullivan (Aspers, Pa./Biglerville HS/Houghton College), Erin Weibley (Loysville, Pa./West Perry), Jill Wessner (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown) and Rebecca Yerkes (West Grove, Pa./Avon Grove).
          Mandy Alderfer, the 2003 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Rookie of the Year, started in all 21 games and scored 11 goals for the Lady Eagles, while forward Tabitha Benjamin played in three contests in her inaugural season for LHU. 
          Contributing to the Lock Haven offense were sophomore Jennifer Churetta with three assists in 14 outings and freshman Sarah Huber, who netted four goals in 15 games.
          Receiving her fourth national academic award, senior Sara Segerlin scored 10 goals and five assists. Segerlin was named Second Team All-PSAC and selected to participate in NFHCA Division II North/South Senior All-Star Game. As a starting back, junior Katie Stewartz recorded four assists in 2003 and earned her third academic award, while fellow junior Mandy Sullivan collected her second selection, playing in one game for Lock Haven. 
          Haven defenders Erin Weibley and Jill Wessner helped the Haven’s defensive unit garner a 0.78 goals against average in 21 games. This marks the second national academic honor for junior Weibley. Freshman goalkeeper Rebecca Yerkes partook in one game guarding the cage for LHU. 
          Under the guidance of eighth year head coach Pat Rudy, the Lady Eagle field hockey team finished its 2003 campaign with an overall record of 17-4-0 and a 13-3-0 PSAC mark. Lock Haven advanced to the PSAC Championship semifinals before falling 3-2 in overtime to Shippensburg University .
