Haven, Pa.) - Jen
DeNault (Hamburg/Hamburg), a
senior member of the Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania field hockey team,
was the 2004 recipient of the University Department of Athletics’ Charlotte
Smith Award. The Charlotte Smith
Award is presented annually to one senior female student-athlete in recognition
of their accomplishments in women's athletics, outstanding leadership, and
academic achievement.
DeNault, a senior Sport Administration major at LHU, was a four-year
starting defender for the Lady Eagle field hockey squad.
Following her senior season, DeNault was named the 2003 Division II
Field Hockey Athlete of the Year. She was a four-time STX/NFHCA All-American,
including three First Team selections. The 2003 Pennsylvania State Athletic
Conference (PSAC) and Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Athlete of the
Year, DeNault was also chosen to compete in the NFHCA Division II Senior
All-Star game. In four years as a starter, the Lady Eagle defender was selected
to the NCAA Division II All-Tournament team three times and was a part of the
2000 national championship team. DeNault
was also an integral member of a pair of PSAC championship titles in 2000 and
2001, and earned four All-PSAC nods including the PSAC Rookie of the Year
honors in 2000 and Athlete of the Year honors in 2003.
Over her four years as a leader on the Haven defensive unit, the Lady
Eagles delivered a stingy 0.653 goals against average and ranked consistently
as one of the most effective defenses in the nation.
Also a threat on the other side of the field, DeNault posted 22 goals
and 19 assists over her career including season highs of 11 goals and eight
assists in 2002.
