LHU Softball To Vie For NCAA Division II
Mid-Atlantic Region Championship

Lock
Haven
University
of
Pennsylvania
softball team (26-15) has
earned a spot in the NCAA Division II Mid-Atlantic Regional softball
championship being held Thursday, May 6th through Saturday, May 8th.
Shippensburg
University
, the region’s top seed,
will host the tournament.
The Lady Eagles are the fourth seed in the tournament, which will be
played in a double-elimination format. Shippensburg
(43-4) holds down the top seed, while
California
(
Pa.
) University (31-9) is the
second seed. Filling the three
additional slots are Kutztown University (28-17) as the third seed, Bloomsburg
University (25-14-1) as the fifth seed, while Virginia State University (20-22)
is the sixth seed. Shippensburg
earned an automatic bid by winning the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC)
title, while
Virginia
State
was the other automatic
qualifier by way of winning the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association
title.
This is the third appearance in the regional tournament for the LHU softball
team, also competing in 1988 and 2002. The
1988 team won the regional title and advanced all the way to the national
championship game before finishing as the Division II runner-up.
In 2002, Lock Haven advanced to the regional championship game, bowing
out of the tournament after going 2-2 in regional competition.
The winner of the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Region championship advances to the
NCAA Division II Championship round at the Division II Spring Sports Festival
from May 13-16 in
Altomonte Springs
,
Fla.

Lynn Spiezio leads LHU at the plate, batting .400, and on the
base paths
with 27 stolen bases.
