Haven, Pa.) - Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania
lacrosse head coach Kristen Geissler has
been selected as the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Coach of the
Year and freshman Jenna Richter (Long
Valley, N.J./West Morris Central) was named the PSAC Rookie of the Year in
this year’s post-season awards as voted on by the conference’s coaches.
A total of five Lady Eagle lacrosse players were recognized for All-PSAC
honors.
In her third season at the helm, Geissler guided Lock Haven to its first PSAC tournament playoff game
since the 1991 season after securing the spot with a 7-5 PSAC ledger. Posting
an overall mark of 8-9, this year’s Haven team set a school record for goals
with 200 scored. The Lady Eagles are ranked among the top four in every
statistical category in the conference. Lock Haven is fourth in both points
(17.76) and goals per game (11.94). The squad was third in assists per game
(5.82) and in goals against average, allowing in 10.12 goals per game. This is
Geissler’s second such honor in her three seasons as head coach, also
receiving the nod as Coach of the Year in 2002.
Richter is one of three Haven freshmen to appear on the All-PSAC
list, earning Second Team Offense honors to accompany her Rookie of the Year
selection. Starting in 16 of 17 games for the Lady Eagles, Richter led the PSAC
and was fourth in the nation with 2.35 assists per game. Her assists total of
40 also set a new Haven single-season record. She ranked third among conference
leaders and 12th nationally in points per game (4.76) and was second
on the squad with 41 goals.
Diana Strizki (Flemington,
N.J./Hunterdon Central) and Shannon Houck (Gilbertsville/Boyertown) were both First Team
selections, Strizki earning her third offensive honor while Houck collects her
first defensive accolade.
Strizki, a junior, led the Haven in scoring this season with 50
goals, ranking her fifth in the PSAC in the goals per game (2.94). She added 19
assists to total 69 points on the season. This
is her second first team appearance and her third-straight time on the
all-conference list.
Houck, a freshman defender, earned the start in 16 of 17 games
for the Lady Eagles. Houck helped lead a defense that ranked third in the PSAC
and 13th in the nation in goals against, letting in an average of
10.12 scores per game. She posted 27 ground balls, nine caused turnovers and
pocketed 14 draw controls. In
addition to her defensive efforts, Houck scored 13 goals and had seven assists
to aid LHU’s most productive offense yet.
Joining Jenna Richter on the Second Team were defensive players Laura
Baranski (
Collingswood
,
N.J./Collingswood) and Stephanie
Wood (Califon, N.J./West Morris Central).
Baranski, a junior, appeared and started in 16 games.
She totaled a team-best 22 caused turnovers along with 28 ground balls. Wood,
the third freshman among the Haven’s All-PSAC selections, started in 15 games
and scored six goals and four assists. She led the Lady Eagles with 46 ground
balls and also tallied 23 draw controls and caused 11 turnovers.
It is the first time on the all-conference list for both players.
