Haven, Pa.) - Chris
Cowan (Horseheads, N.Y./Thomas A. Edison) and Nick
Slotterback (Lewisburg/Lewisburg), both of the Lock Haven University of
Pennsylvania men’s track and field team, earned Pennsylvania State Athletic
Conference (PSAC) Track Athlete and Field Athlete of the Week honors for events
ending May 9.
Cowan earns PSAC
Track Athlete of the Week honors after setting a stadium record with his
winning time of 3:52.83 in the 1500 meter run at the LHU Qualifier. His time
met NCAA provisional qualifying standards and leads all PSAC competitors.
Cowan, the indoor season’s PSAC Championship MVP and Most Outstanding
Track Athlete, has now posted nationally qualifying times in both the 1500 and
5000 meters during the outdoor campaign.
The PSAC Field Athlete of the Week, Slotterback
rolled out an NCAA automatic qualifying distance in the javelin at last
weekend’s LHU Qualifier, winning the event with a toss of 218’4”. His
mark is the best in the conference and ranks the senior second nationally.
Slotterback is the defending PSAC and NCAA Division II champion in the event.
The Lock Haven men’s and women’s track and field teams compete at
the 2004 PSAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships from May 13-15 at
Slippery
Rock
University
