finished in fourth-place in the 2004
Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference’s (PSAC) Dixon Trophy standings as
announced today. Lock Haven won the
Dixon Trophy in back-to-back years from 2001-2002. Winning the trophy for the
second-straight year and the fourth time overall is
Shippensburg
University
, which also won
back-to-back titles in 1998 and 1999.
The Dixon Trophy is named after F. Eugene
Dixon, Jr., former chairman of the Board
of Governors of the State System of Higher Education.
It has been awarded annually since 1995 to the PSAC member institution
that accumulates the most points based on results of conference playoffs and/or
regular-season records. Each
institution’s point total is calculated by adding its top six men’s
finishes and top six women’s finishes in 22 conference sports.
The Haven recorded a year-end total of 110.5 points to place fourth
overall.
Shippensburg
University
collected 128.5 points for
the win, including a new record of
72 points scored by its women’s programs.
Runner-up
Kutztown
University
had 125.5 points while
Indiana (
Pa.
) University finished third
with 116 points. Following Lock
Haven in fifth place was
Slippery
Rock
University
(108.5).
Lock Haven won three conference titles over the 2003-04 academic year as Bald
Eagle teams captured the men’s cross country and men’s indoor track and
field titles while the Lady Eagle volleyball team also claimed the conference
crown. LHU squads finished as PSAC
championship runners-up in women’s soccer, wrestling and men’s outdoor
track and field while advancing to the conference playoffs and wrapping up as
semifinalists in field hockey, softball and lacrosse.|
Over the course of the fall, winter and spring sports seasons, a total of 106
All-PSAC awards were earned by 73 Lock Haven student-athletes.
Three PSAC Coach of the Year accolades were awarded to Lock Haven
athletics coaches, including Aaron Russell (men’s cross country), Mark
Elliston (men’s indoor track and field) and Kristen Geissler (lacrosse). Two
student-athletes earned PSAC Athlete of the Year honors, Jen DeNault (field
hockey) and Chris Cowan (cross country), while three were named conference
Rookie of the Year including Amanda Alderfer (field hockey), Cherry Li
(volleyball) and Jenna Richter (lacrosse).
The Lock
Haven athletics program captured the 2000 and 2001 Dixon Trophy.
