LHU Wrestling Eighth on NWCA All-Academic List

   
  (Lock Haven, Pa.) - The Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania wrestling team was ranked eighth among all NCAA Division I programs in the National Wrestling Coaches Association’s (NWCA) Academic Top Thirty.  Seniors Mike Maney (Clarence/Bald Eagle Area) and Charlie Brenneman (Hollidaysburg/Hollidaysburg) were also singled out as All-Academic Team members.
            The Bald Eagle wrestlers, composed of the ten starting wrestlers along with two backups, earned a combined grade point average of 3.143 to rank eighth on the NWCA Top-30 list.  Sacred Heart ranked first, carrying a combined 3.406 average.  Lock Haven was the top team from the Eastern Wrestling League (EWL) and the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) in the rankings.  EWL opponents
Cleveland State University (3.014), West Virginia University (3.01) and Edinboro University (2.93) were also on the list.
            Mike Maney, a four-time PSAC Champion and NCAA qualifier, rounded out his career with a fourth All-Academic accolade from the NWCA.  Maney, a Secondary Education major with a concentration in Social Science, owns a 3.46 grade point average.  The senior Bald Eagle finished 34-8 this season wrestling at 149 pounds, winning his fourth-straight PSAC title and earning PSAC Tournament Most Outstanding Wrestler accolades while also qualifying for the NCAA Division I National Championships after a third-place finish in the Eastern Wrestling League (EWL) tournament. He is a four-time PSAC Scholar-Athlete and a two-time PSAC Winter Top Ten award winner.
            Charlie Brenneman, an NCAA qualifier this season at 157 pounds, earns his first NWCA All-Academic honor. A senior majoring in Secondary Education with a concentration in Spanish, Brenneman compiled an impressive 3.98 grade point average.  He was the Bald Eagle wins leader this season with a 35-11 overall record and led the squad with eight wins by major decision. Third at the PSAC Championships and fifth at the EWL tournament, Brenneman earned his first trip to the national tournament as a wild card pick. He is a four-time PSAC Scholar-Athlete, a PSAC Winter Top Ten Award winner and a two-time EWL All-Academic Team member.
            The Lock Haven wrestling team finished the season at 4-10 overall and placed 42nd at the national championships.
