Lady Eagle Soccer To Face Kutztown in PSAC Quarterfinal

   
  (Lock Haven, Pa.) -  The Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania women’s soccer team ( 8-11-2 , 6-5-1 PSAC) will meet Kutztown University ( 14-2-3 , 9-2-1 ) in the quarterfinal round of the PSAC post-season tournament on Tuesday, November 4. Kutztown, the third seed in the tournament, hosts the sixth-seeded Lady Eagles in a game scheduled for a 1 p.m. start on Keystone Field.  
            Tickets for the game will be available at the gate. Cost of tickets is $7 for adults and $2 for students. 

Tournament Bracket: Slippery Rock University ( 13-2-2 , 9-1-2 PSAC) earned the tournament’s top seed, while West Chester University ( 11-4-3 , 9-1-2 PSAC) is the second seed.  Kutztown is the third seed, while Millersville University ( 13-5-1 , 9-3-0 PSAC) took the fourth seed.  Positioned in the fifth slot is Edinboro University ( 12-6-1 , 7-4-1 PSAC), while Lock Haven finished as the sixth seed.  
            The PSAC quarterfinal round matches up #6 Lock Haven and #3 Kutztown along with #4 Millersville versus #5 Edinboro.  #1 Slippery Rock and #2 West Chester earned a bye through the quarterfinals and will play the winners of the first-round games in the semifinals to be played on Friday, November 7.

  Lock Haven University : The Lady Eagles make their eighth-straight appearance in the PSAC tournament over the program’s ten-year history. Lock Haven has won three PSAC titles, capturing the crown in 1999, 2000 and 2001.  This is the second conference tournament bid for second-year head coach Shannon Champ, who led the Lady Eagles to the NCAA Division II Northeast Region finals last season. In conference championship action last season, the top-seeded Lady Eagles were upset in the semifinal round by a fourth-seeded Millersville squad, 2-1.  
            Offensively, the Lady Eagles have utilized a host of players to generate scoring.  Freshman Martina Hall ( Klagenfurt , Austria (Ingeborg Bachmann) is the goals leader with six tallies and the overall scoring leader with 15 points.  Four other players have contributed four goals, headed up by junior Brooke Rangi ( Kawerau , New Zealand / Kawerau College ) with four goals and four assists.  Another New Zealand native, senior Joanna Bisphan ( Hamilton , New Zealand /Hillcrest) has added four goals and two assists.  
           Caitlin Sultzbach (Lititz/Warwick) and Danielle Smith (Johnson, N.Y./Minisink Valley) have both registered four goals and one assist. Freshman forward Holly Homsher (Millersville/Penn Manor) is among PSAC leaders with her team-best nine assists in addition to two goals.
            Among other possible threats are midfielder Cheryl Runko (Selinsgrove/Selinsgrove) (2g) and defender Kimberly Thompson (Ephrata/Ephrata) (2g, 1a).
            The Haven defense is anchored by sweeper Danielle Smith along with Kimberly Thompson and freshmen Elizabeth Beattie ( Madison , Ohio /Madison) and Jennifer Meassick (Endwell, N.Y./Maine Endwell).  Lady Eagle keeper Brandie Kessler (Bethlehem/Saucon Valley) has a 2.38 goals against average and has collected 73 saves in 12 games played this season.  Diane Wall ( Green Lane /Pennridge) can also fill in at keeper if needed – Wall owns a 1.49 goals against average in seven appearances.  

Kutztown University : The Golden Bears of Kutztown University ( 14-2-3 ) make their inaugural appearance in the PSAC tournament, earning the third seed with a conference mark of 9-2-1 .  Kutztown’s only losses in the PSAC this season came against top-seeded Slippery Rock (4-2) and Shippensburg (2-1) and the Golden Bears’ one tie was against #2 seed West Chester (1-1).  
            Freshman forward Kelly Lau leads Kutztown in scoring with 14 goals and eight assists, followed by sophomore forward Chrissy Jack who has tallied 11 goals and two assists. Junior midfielder Lauren Tatro shares the team lead with Lau with eight assists and has also scored on four occasions.
            The Golden Bears’ Colleen Mooney, a sophomore forward, has three goals and one assist, while three other players have added two goals each.
            Kutztown defenders have allowed only 17 goals all season paced by the play of sophomore keeper Mandi Johnsen. Johnson is the PSAC leader with eight shutouts and is among the conference frontrunners with a 0.86 goals against average and 111 saves.  

Earlier This Season: Kutztown defeated Lock Haven, 3-1, on October 18 at Lock Haven, Pa.   Kelly Lau scored twice, including the game-winner and Lauren Tatro added one goal in the win. Lady Eagle Brooke Rangi scored the Haven’s lone goal.  

Moving On: The winner of Tuesday’s contest will face the #2 seed West Chester University on Friday, Nov. 7, with the time yet to be determined.  The winner of the Edinboro-Millersville contest will travel to #1 seed Slippery Rock, also on Friday. The PSAC championship game is set for Sunday, Nov. 9, at the site of the highest remaining seed.
