Four Lady Eagle Field Hockey Players Merit All-America Honors

  (Lock Haven, Pa.) -  Four Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania field hockey players, Jen DeNault (Hamburg/Hamburg), Nikki Sweger (Dauphin/Central Dauphin East), Courtney Hughes (Schwenksville/Souderton) and Kellie Kulina (Hummelstown/Lower Dauphin), have been recognized as STX/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division II All-Americans.
            Two Lady Eagles, Jen DeNault and Nikki Sweger, were selected as First Team All-Americans.
             It is the third First Team selection and the fourth All-America honor for senior back Jen DeNault. DeNault was the 2003 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Athlete of the Year and earned a First Team All-PSAC pick for the third-straight season.  She helped lead a defense that allowed only 0.81 goals per game.  A threat offensively as well, DeNault’s 10 goals and five assists ranked her 10th in the conference in scoring with 25 points and 1.19 points per game.  She was also 11th in goals per game with 0.48 per contest.
            Sophomore forward Nikki Sweger earns her second All-America accolade, meriting first team honors this season after receiving second-team honors as a freshman.  Sweger finished out the season as the PSAC leader in goals with 21 and was second in both points (46) and points per game (2.19).  A two-time All-PSAC forward, she scored two or more goals in six games this season. 
            Both Courtney Hughes and Kellie Kulina earned Second Team All-America mention.  
            It marks the first All-America award for sophomore back Courtney Hughes.  Hughes, a two-time All-PSAC defender, helped pilot a defense that allowed 0.81 goals per game. Offensively, she contributed five goals and eight assists.
            Junior forward Kellie Kulina earns her first All-America nod, receiving second team honors.  Kulina is a three-time All-PSAC forward and scored eight goals and led the Lady Eagles with 12 assists this season.
            The 2003 Lock Haven field hockey team closed out the season with an overall record of 17-4 as a PSAC semifinalist.
