THE SERIES
California holds a slight 31-14-1 advantage over the Bald Eagles in a series dating back to 1958 when LHU out-shot the Fighting Scots in a 33-26 victory.  Lock Haven has dropped the last three, most recently the 48-13 matchup from a year ago.

THE LAST TIME VERSUS THE FIGHTING SCOTS
Edinboro University scored 28 unanswered points in the first half before collecting the 48-13 decision over the Lock Haven University Bald Eagles at Hubert Jack Stadium.  Seven different Fighting Scots scored as the Edinboro out-gained Lock Haven, 458-239, and held the Bald Eagles to just 60 yards rushing.

The Fighting Scots gained control of the lead just 48 seconds into the game on the second play after the opening kickoff. After a stop for no gain on the initial carry, Dru Robinson broke down the right sideline and shed several defenders before hitting the open field and the endzone for the 70-yard score.

Both teams punted away their next possessions, then Edinboro would extend its lead by scoring on three successive drives – two more in the first quarter and one in the second.  The Scots drove 72 yards for their second touchdown, Matt Phillips pounding the ball through the middle for the seven-yard score at 1:59 remaining in the first quarter.

PSAC interceptions leader Raji El-Amin picked up his eighth of the season to put an abrupt halt to Lock Haven’s following drive, spoiling Troy Wile’s (Fayetteville, Pa./Chambersburg) pass attempt on the very first play from scrimmage and returning it 26 yards to the Haven 19-yard line before he was knocked out of bounds.  Three plays later, Edinboro’s offensive line paved the path for Brandon Munson’s seven yard scamper and the 21-0 Edinboro lead at 0:53 in the first period.

In the second quarter, Edinboro quarterback Justin Bouch hit Justin Lipscomb for a 64-yard strike midway through their next possession to move the ball to within three yards of scoring.  Lock Haven was able to hold off a run by Phillips, but a pass overtop of the defense fell into the hands of C.J. Trivisonno from three-yards out at 11:17 to boost the lead to 28-0, Edinboro.

The Fighting Scot lead would remain at 28-0 at the half, as kicker Kody Robertson came up empty-handed on a 31-yard field goal attempt as time ran out.

Freshman fullback Adam Andrasko gets ready to deliver the hit.

THE COACHES

Lock Haven Head coach Mark Luther (Penn State, ‘92) is in his fifth season with the Bald Eagle program. The 2002 PSAC Western Division Coach of the Year, Luther continues to create a more competitive product with his teams challenging the top conference and regional programs on a regular basis.

Just last season, the Bald Eagles’ wins included one over Bloomsburg University, the 2003 runner-up and 2004 pre-season favorite in the Eastern Division. He currently owns a 15-36 overall mark at Lock Haven. Luther assumed the head role at LHU following five years as an assistant with the Bald Eagles from 1994-1998, acting as defensive coordinator, recruiting coordinator and administrative assistant to former head coach Nick Polk.
Lou Tepper
Veteran Division I mentor Lou Tepper was appointed the 12th head football coach at Edinboro University, officially taking charge of the Fighting Scot program on January 5, 2000. He promised a tough and classy program, and in four short years has delivered a championship team that fans and alumni enthusiastically endorse.
Tepper inherited an Edinboro program which had won just eleven games in the previous three seasons. The Scots have shown consistent improvement in "Coach Tep's" four years, culminated by an appearance in the NCAA Division II Playoffs this past year. The 2000 season brought a 5-6 record, matching the Edinboro record for wins by a first-year head coach.

Lock Haven would end Edinboro’s streak of 20 quarters without a touchdown allowed on its initial possession out of the intermission, putting together 13 plays for 87 yards and the score by Adam Angelici.  Scott Anderson and Rafael Smith (Pittsburgh/Woodland Hills) both caught passes from Wile for first downs to move the sticks into Edinboro territory.  On a third-and-10 situation from the Edinboro 30-yardline, El-Amin picked off another ball, but a penalty on the Scots negated the play and Lock Haven maintained possession at the 20-yard line.  Three plays later, Wile located Angelici breaking down the right sideline and led him into the corner of the endzone for the 18-yard touchdown at 8:27 . The extra point by Dan Hagerman (Scottdale/Southmoreland) was good, bringing the score to 28-7.

Edinboro would bounce right back to score on its next try, however, making the lead 35-7 after Bouch found Ryan Valasek for a long-distance, 42-yard connection and score down the left side of the field.

Lock Haven pushed the ball into Edinboro territory on the following possession, but Matt Birkett intercepted another of Wile’s passes at the one-yard line to bring the offense back onto the field.

Into the fourth quarter, the Bald Eagles would assemble one more scoring drive in the game, putting together 15 plays for 52 yards following an interception by Mike Nesby (Rankin/Woodland Hills) at the Lock Haven 48-yard line.  Several short gains on the ground along with a 14-yard catch by Anderson and a 13-yard reception by Angelici moved the ball up to the six-yard line.  Quarterback Tim Storino dropped back and sent a spiral into the back corner of the endzone for Anderson, who came down with the ball for the score at 7:41 in the fourth quarter. The Hagerman kick attempt fell short, moving the score to 35-13.

Edinboro ended the game as it began it – with a flurry of scoring.  The Scots would tack on six points with a 16-yard rush by J.D. Baker at 4:02 .  As Lock Haven was steadying to move on the next drive, J.R. Prad sacked Storino and caused the ball to pop loose. Edinboro’s Ben Stroup finally came up with the ball, running it into paydirt from seven-yards out for the score at 3:39 . The good kick by Matt Barley brought the score and final outcome of the game to 48-13, Edinboro.

Edinboro running back Dru Robinson totaled 125 yards on 14 takes and one touchdown, while quarterback Justin Bouch had 163 yards on 11-of-14 passing with two touchdowns thrown. Defensively, linebacker Seth Fragale led the Scots with 10 tackles including three for loss.  Jermaine Hughley added nine tackles and 2.5 stops behind the line of scrimmage.

Lock Haven receivers Scott Anderson and Rafael Smith led the offensive efforts, Anderson hauling in seven catches for 91 yards and a touchdown, while Smith had 41 yards on four catches.  Troy Wile was 15-for-28 with 146 yards and one touchdown pass. Linebacker Derrik Metz led all defenders with 13 stops, including seven solo hits.  Fellow linebacker Dan Wissinger had five tackles to rate second among Haven defenders.

SCOUTING EDINBORO
The Fighting Scots, now 7-2 overall, enter the final week of the regular season ranked No. 24 in the nation and No. 6 in the Northeast Region. The Fighting Scots most recently slipped by Kutztown University 23-14.

Edinboro has a punishing run defense that is 10th in the nation at 92.0 yards per game. Captaining the defense is linebacker Seth Fragale, who has done it all for the Scots, with 73 total tackles, eight for loss, four sacks and two interceptions and two fumble recoveries. Strong safety Tim Hyde chips in with 51 stops, including 5.5 for loss.

Junior tailback Andre Burke is second in the PSAC in all-purpose yards, averaging 169.1 per game. He also has a nose for the end zone, averaging 10.7 points per game. Justin Bouch is at the reigns of the Edinboro offense, to the tune of 1,463 yards 12 touchdowns and eight interceptions.

BALD EAGLE NOTES...

Eric Scaife (Philipsburg, Pa./Philipsburg-Osceola) and Matt Coxford (Middlebury Center, Pa./Wellsboro) claim the pair of offensive tackle positions. Jason Walther (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown) is the probable starter at tight end and has hauled in six passes for 82 yards.

Strong safety David Show (Mill Run, Pa./Connellsville Area) is tops on the team with 73 tackles. The redshirt freshman has made an impact in his first season, adding four tackles for loss and three takeaways (2 INT, 1 fum.). Joining Show will be freshman Corey Gildea (Holidaysburg, Pa./Holidaysburg) at free safety (22 TT, 14 solo). On the corners will Matt Shealy (New Bethlehem, Pa./Redbank Vly) (24 TT, 2 INT) and Michael Nesby (
Rankin, Pa./Woodland Hills) (34 TT, 2 INT).

The linebacking corps are headed by senior Brian Lumpkin (Rockville, Md./Bullis School) with 68 total tackles and 40 solo stops. At the other linebacker spots are Derek Harsch (Wellsboro, Pa./Wellsboro Area) (54 TT, 2.5 TFL) who recorded a Bald Eagle season-best 14 tackles against Cal U and Charles Cannon (Braddock Hills, Pa./Woodland Hills) (20 TT, 5 solo).

The defensive ends shape up as Brad Sones (Elysburg, Pa./Southern Columbia) who leads the team with 7.5 tackles for loss (43 TT, 1 sack) and John Smeltzer (Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion) (17 TT, 4.5 TFL). The rest of the line will include Warren Whitaker (Wilkes-Barre/GAR Memorial) (31 TT, 2 TFL) and Jarrod Hendricks (Rockton/DuBois Area) (27 TT, 1 TFL).

SPECIAL  TEAMS
In just two years, sophomore Dan Hagerman has become one of the top kickers in LHU history. He has 16 field goals in his two-year career, good for third in the school record books. Hagerman is a perfect 16-for-16 on extra-point kicks and averages 34.9 yards per punt, dropping 10 kicks inside the 20-yard line.

Maurice Walker and Michael Nesby are slated for kickoff returns, averaging 20.0 and 18.4, respectively. Walker also handles punts, averaging 1.5 yards per return.
