Men’s Cross Country Enjoys Highest Ever National Ranking

LOCK HAVEN, Pa.-- Lock Haven University men’s cross country is ranked sixth in the nation according to the latest NCAA Division II cross country rankings. The number is the highest in school history.

This ranking gives us a lot of confidence,” said head coach Aaron Russell. “Last year we took a young team to nationals and this year we’ve been more composed. Now teams know we are for real,” added Russell.

Senior Chris Cowen (Horseheads, N.Y./Thomas A. Edison) was named PSAC Runner of the Week for the week ending Sept. 27. He took top LHU honors, finishing third at the Division II Pre-Nationals Meet on Saturday, finishing in 25:02.

The men’s team had a huge victory at the Pre-Nationals. Lock Haven put four runners in the top 10, including Cowen, Ryan Blood (Summerdale/East Pennsboro), Paul Hallman (Langhorne/Neshaminy) and Billy Buckenmeyer (Alexander, N.Y./Alexander Central) who were third, fourth, eighth, and tenth respectively.

The No.6-ranked Bald Eagles return to the course on Friday October 1, at 5:30 p.m. at the Gulden Invitational hosted by Bucknell University.
