HAMPTON, Va. – The Lock Haven
University baseball team (2-3) jumped out to an early
lead, but the bats ran dry as the Bald Eagles dropped a
3-1 decision to East Stroudsburg University (4-2) today in
the Builder Invitational consolation game. Sophomore
pitcher Kyle Wentz (Schuylkill Haven, Pa./Blue Mtn)
went six innings, allowing three runs—just one earned—in
the loss.
The Bald
Eagles got off to a great start, loading the bases with
one out in the first inning. Senior Dave Miller
(Tyrone, Pa./Bellwood-Antis) brought home a run on a
groundout, his fourth RBI of the young season. Miller’s
RBI would produce the only run of the game for LHU.
ESU took
over in the fourth, as Wentz fell victim to two Haven
errors resulting in a pair of unearned runs. He would
regain his composure to hold the Warriors scoreless until
the final inning, when he gave up his lone earned run of
the game.
Senior
Andy Leakey (State College, Pa/State College) made his
second appearance of the season to get the last three outs
with one inherited runner, fanning two.
Sophomore
pitcher Jason Brindle (Huntingdon, Pa./Huntingdon Area)
was named to the all-tournament team for LHU. Brindle
threw 6.1 innings of three-hit shutout ball against
Bloomsburg University on Friday.
Wentz, Miller, Leakey and
the rest of the Bald Eagles are back in action Saturday,
March 5 at 4 p.m. as they face Findlay University. |
