Lock Haven Bats Hot, Then Cold in Split, 6-4, 2-0

FT. MYERS, Fla. – The Lock Haven University baseball team (3-4) split a doubleheader with the Findlay University (1-2) today in the first day of the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic. Senior first baseman  Dave Miller (Tyrone, Pa./Bellwood-Antis) busted out of an early-season slump, going 4-for-6 with two doubles and four RBI.

In game one, the Bald Eagles jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first inning. Findlay answered with two in the second, matched by LHU’s two in the bottom half.

Miller drove in four of the team’s six runs, supported by a 2-for-3 effort from junior Kyle Elbin (Bedford, Pa./Bedford). Kurt Elbin (Bedford, Pa./Bedford) had a 1-for-3 day with three runs scored.

Sophomore Blake Barbini (Pittston, Pa./Pittston Area) threw 4.2 innings, striking out two and improving to 1-1. Junior Kenny Janiszewski (Tunkhannock, Pa./Tunkhannock) shut down the Oilers for the final 2.1 to pick up his second save.

Game two was an amazing pitcher’s dual between LHU’s freshman Pat Young (Allensville, Pa./Indian Valley) and Findlay’s Kromer.

Kromer shut down the Bald Eagle bats, allowing just three hits in the blanking.

Young caught the freshman jitters in the first, walking and hitting a batter before giving up a single that would bring in both of Findlay’s runs. Young finished with six innings walking just two and fanning three.

Miller went 2-for-3 with a double.

Miller, Elbin, Barbini, Janizewski, Young and the rest of the Bald Eagles are back in action tomorrow at 4 p.m. when they face Merrimack University
