FT. MEYERS, Fla. – The Lock Haven University baseball team (5-4) swept a pair of “M” schools today (March 5) at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic, topping Merrimack College (1-2) 1-0 before upending Millersville University 4-3. Senior reliever Andy Leakey (State College, Pa/State College) picked up a win and a save in the day’s action.

Against Merrimack, LHU struck for their lone run in the fifth, driven in by junior Aaron Neideigh (Spring Mills, Pa./Penns Valley), who finished the game 2-for-3. Senior shortstop Brett Kelley (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport) added his own multi-hit game, going 2-for-2.

Junior Bryan Stamm (Mifflinburg, Pa./Temple University) evened his record out to 1-1 with a six-inning effort, allowing just one hit and fanning two. Leakey came in to finish things off for his first save of the season.

LHU jumped out to a 2-0 lead on Millersville, but the Marauders answered with two of their own in the bottom half of the second. When the Haven tacked another on in the sixth, MU answered again, evening it up at 3-3. The Bald Eagles got the decisive run in the top of the seventh.

Sophomore starter Jason A. Brindle (James Creek, Pa./Huntingdon Area) gave the Bald Eagles their second solid pitching effort of the day, as he scattered three runs over 5.2 innings and struck out 11 MU batters. Leakey (1-0) entered with one out in the sixth, got the last four batters – including two by strikeout – to get the win.

Top hitting performers for the Haven were senior Chris Miller (Tyrone, Pa/Bellwood-Antis), going 2-for-2 with one RBI and a double, and classmate Derek Megargell (Orangeville, Pa./Alleghany College(Md.)) who finished 2-for-3 with one driven in.

Leakey, Neideigh, Kelley, Stamm, Brindle, Miller, Megargell and the rest of the Bald Eagles are back in action Tuesday, March 8 at 9 a.m. against Millersville.
