MEYERS, Fla. – The Lock Haven
University baseball team (5-4) swept a pair of “M” schools
today (March 5) at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic,
topping Merrimack College (1-2) 1-0 before upending
Millersville University 4-3. Senior reliever
Andy Leakey (State College, Pa/State College)
picked up a win and a save in the day’s action.
Against
Merrimack, LHU struck for their lone run in the fifth,
driven in by junior
Aaron Neideigh
(Spring Mills, Pa./Penns Valley),
who finished the game 2-for-3. Senior shortstop
Brett Kelley (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport)
added his own multi-hit game, going
2-for-2.
Junior
Bryan Stamm
(Mifflinburg, Pa./Temple University)
evened his record out to 1-1 with a six-inning effort,
allowing just one hit and fanning two. Leakey came in to
finish things off for his first save of the season.
LHU
jumped out to a 2-0 lead on Millersville, but the
Marauders answered with two of their own in the bottom
half of the second. When the Haven tacked another on in
the sixth, MU answered again, evening it up at 3-3. The
Bald Eagles got the decisive run in the top of the
seventh.
Sophomore
starter
Jason A. Brindle
(James Creek, Pa./Huntingdon Area)
gave the Bald Eagles their second solid
pitching effort of the day, as he scattered three runs
over 5.2 innings and struck out 11 MU batters. Leakey
(1-0) entered with one out in the sixth, got the last four
batters – including two by strikeout – to get the win.
Top
hitting performers for the Haven were senior
Chris Miller
(Tyrone, Pa/Bellwood-Antis), going 2-for-2 with one
RBI and a double, and classmate
Derek
Megargell (Orangeville, Pa./Alleghany College(Md.))
who finished 2-for-3 with one driven in.
Leakey,
Neideigh, Kelley, Stamm, Brindle, Miller, Megargell and
the rest of the Bald Eagles are back in action Tuesday,
March 8 at 9 a.m. against Millersville.
