CAPE
CORAL, Fla. – The Lock Haven
University baseball team (8-6) overcame a 19-6 pounding in
game one to nab a 6-4 victory in game two of today’s
(March 12) double-header with the College of St. Rose
(6-4). LHU finished at 6-3 at the Gene Cusick Collegiate
Classic.
“In game
two, we hit well and played well defensively,” said
assistant coach Heath Stover. “After losing as bad
as we did in the first game, it was great to see the guys
come out and play that well in game two. We definitely
ended on a positive note.”
In game
one, the Golden Knights put up seven runs in the first
inning, and all 19 in the first five innings. LHU made a
late rally with three in the bottom of the sixth, but it
was too late to make an impact.
Senior
Chris Miller (Tyrone, Pa/Bellwood-Antis) went 3-for-3
with his first home run of the season and classmate
Kurt Elbin (Bedford, Pa./Delgado C.C.)
added a home run of his own.
Sophomore
Jason A. Brindle (James Creek,
Pa./Huntingdon Area) couldn’t
get out of the first inning, getting the loss to fall to
1-1. St. Rose’s Eric Pooler got the win.
Game two
saw a dramatic turnaround, as junior
Bryan Stamm (Mifflinburg, Pa./Temple
University) held the Golden
Knight hitters to just five hits and four runs, while the
Bald Eagles posted 12 hits for their six runs. Stamm went
6.2 innings, striking out six and improves to 2-1.
Kenny Janiszewski (Tunkhannock,
Pa./Tunkhannock) got the final
out for his third save.
Senior
shortstop
Brett Kelley
(Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport)
tagged his second home run in as many days, driving in
two, with Elbin adding a 3-for-3, two-RBI effort to the
cause. Seniors Dave Miller (Tyrone, Pa./Bellwood-Antis)
and
Derek Megargell (Orangeville,
Pa./Alleghany College(Md.)) each
had two hits.
Stover, Miller, Elbin, Brindle, Stamm,
Kelley, Miller, Megargell and the rest of the Bald Eagles
are back in action Saturday, March 19 at 1 p.m. as they
host East Stroudsburg University. |
